About AMW
Akoka’tssini Mental Wellness (AMW) is a sub-department under the Aakom-Kiyii Health Services umbrella. AMW supports the Piikani community with services and programming directly related to Mental Health and Addictions. AMW’s mission is to encourage Niitsitapi in their healing by providing continued services with integrity and kimmapiipitsin while reclaiming Piikanissini.
Summary
Akoka’tssini Mental Wellness (AMW) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN). The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct clinical care, health education, and wellness support at Aakoka’tssini Mental Wellness (AMW). This role includes delivering primary nursing services, supporting chronic disease management, participating in community health initiatives, and contributing to specialized programs such as medical detox. The RN works closely with clients, families, and healthcare partners to ensure high-quality, culturally safe, and holistic care. Guided by trauma-informed practice and clinical standards, the RN plays a central role in supporting individual and community wellness across the continuum of care.
Role & Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care including assessments, medication administration, wound care, and health monitoring in clinic, home, and community settings.
- Support clients undergoing medical detox by managing withdrawal symptoms, monitoring vital signs, and administering prescribed treatments.
- Collaborate with physicians, paramedics, support workers, and mental wellness staff to ensure continuity of care and appropriate referrals.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of client encounters, care plans, and clinical observations.
- Participate in community outreach and health promotion initiatives.
- Respond to health concerns or emergencies in the community and provide stabilization until further medical support is available.
- Assist in intake and discharge planning for detox clients.• Uphold infection prevention and control standards in all clinical environments.
- Engage in ongoing learning and participate in quality improvement activities within the medical team.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
- Registration or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
Knowledge:
- Thorough understanding of nursing practice standards, health assessment, and clinical documentation.
- Familiarity with medication administration protocols, chronic disease management, and infection prevention and control measures.
- Knowledge of substance use disorders and basic principles of withdrawal management is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical equipment use and infection control practices.
- Familiarity with Piikani Nation governance, culture and language is an asset.
