Medical Transportation Services

Aakom Kiyii Health Services provides non-emergency medical transportation for eligible First Nation status members living on the Piikani Nation who need assistance getting to approved medical appointments. This service helps ensure community members can access the care they need, both on and off the Nation.

Transportation is arranged for specialist, medical and dental appointments, as well as other approved health-related travel. Our team works closely with clients to coordinate rides, confirm appointments, and ensure travel is scheduled in a safe and timely manner. Taxi services may also be arranged when appropriate.

For early appointments in Lethbridge and Calgary, accommodations and meals can be pre-approved when required. The program also assists with travel authorizations, confirmations of attendance, and eligible expense reimbursements, helping reduce barriers to care and support community well-being.

Client Responsibilities

  • Must book an appointment with Piikani Medical Transportation staff
  • MT staff will arrange the mode of travel for the client
  • The client must provide all appointment details
  • Clients must call at least 24 hours in advance to cancel or reschedule an appointment
  • MTS drivers will only provide a five-minute grace time for pick-ups
  • Clients must assist the MTS Driver to keep fleet vehicles clean as others are utilizing these vehicles
  • When utilizing medical transportation, and then deciding to ride home with someone else, you not be eligible for gas support
  • Add-ons will be considered, pending on schedules and the client’s condition
  • NO SMOKING IN VEHICLES!
  • No personal business, vehicles are strictly for medical transportation use
  • MT drivers will NOT tolerate any kind of abuse (ie. Verbal, mental, physical, ect.)
  • MT will NOT transport anyone under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
  • One medical escort per client

Transportation Support & Reimbursement

We assist with travel approvals, confirmations of attendance, and eligible reimbursement for approved medical transportation expenses. All private vehicle trips must be pre-approved by Medical Transportation prior to attending the appointment
