The professions that provide direct front line services & Care to Aakom-Kiyii Health Services Clients.

Community Health Registered Nurse – The main focus of a Community Health Nurse is Prevention & Education.  A Community Health Nurses is responsible to provide services to clients in a number of areas including: immunization, disease and injury prevention, protection and promotion, infection control, and emergency preparedness and response.  Nursing roles may at times require different levels of physical exertion.  Working in the role of a nurse, you may also be exposed to hazardous material such as blood, bodily fluids, chemicals, etc.  Registered nurses use critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills to provide compassionate and safe patient care

Registered nurses are required to work on and off site.  Offsite duties may include, home visits, school immunization, and mass community immunization, etc.  Registered Nurses are required to have an Active or are eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).

Home Care Registered Nurse – As the Registered Nurse you will collaborate with the client, family and other care providers to provide an assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of a client health care plans.  As a Registered Nurse you at times may be responsible for coordinating home care services.  You will provides direct nursing care and health education to clients including but not limited to, administering medication, monitoring and reporting a patient’s condition to their physician.  Registered nurses use critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills to provide compassionate and safe patient care

Licensed Practical Nurse – The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible to provide services to Home Care clients following the clients care plan.  You will provide services such as supportive/personal care, perform vital signs, changing dressings, testing blood sugar, etc.   As a Licensed Practical Nurses your will be responsible for client charting and reporting any changes in clients health to a Home Care RN.  Nursing roles may at times require different levels of physical exertion.  Working in the role of a nurse, you may also be exposed to hazardous material such as blood, bodily fluids, chemicals, etc.   Nurses use critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills to provide compassionate and safe patient care

Health Care Aide – The Health Care Aide will work within program guidelines and carry out work assignments that support/assist clients in active or daily living.  The HCA will combine health knowledge, communication, and administrative skills to effectively deliver community care services and adapt services to meet the changing health and social needs of Piikani members.

Health Care Aides are required to work on and off site.  Offsite duties may include, home visits, AKHS Events.  Health Care Aide roles may at times require different levels of physical exertion.

Dietitian – In close cooperation with other health and allied professionals and community agencies, the dietitian will provide nutrition expertise to clients in various settings to achieve nutrition and health outcomes in Piikani Nation. They will be responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition care plans. They will plan and provide formal and informal presentations, counseling, and education programs to promote healthy living and disease prevention for clients and groups.

The Dietitian is required to work on and off site. Off sites duties may include client home visit, school visits, AKHS events, etc.

Children’s Oral Health Aide – The Childrens’s Oral Health Aide ( COHI Aide) is responsible to implement and deliver the Children’s Oral Health Initiative program, which focuses on children from ages 0 – 7 years of age. COHI is a community based initiative to prevent tooth decay and improve oral health among First Nations children.  Prior to Provision of COHI services, the COHI Aide will be required to successfully complete COHI Training.

The COHI Aide is required to work on and off site.  Off sites duties for the COHI Aide may include school visits, AKHS events, etc.

Community Health Representative – The primary role of the community Health Representative, (“CHR”), is to provide a wide range of culturally appropriate health promotion health education to individuals, families, groups and community development & self-responsibility within the framework of the health determinants. The CHR works in close cooperation with other health and allied professionals and community agencies to promote health and prevent disease for clientele of both sexes across the life cycle.

The CHR is required to work on and off site.  Off sites duties for a CHR include home visits, school visits, community information events, etc.

Client Navigator – The Client Navigators role is to advocate for clients, navigating clients through community resources, coordinating and providing care that is safe, timely, effective and efficient.  Part of this role will include researching available resources outside and within the community.  As a Client Navigator you will require experience with case management, as well as good communication, time management and organizational skills.

assist in removing the client’s barriers to care by identifying critical resources for clients, helping them navigate through health care services and systems.

The Client Navigator is required to work on and off site.  Off sites duties for the Client Navigator may include home visits, AKHS events, etc.

Health Educator – The Health Educators’ primary duties are to educate and assist community members in health promotion activities focusing on disease prevention, promoting healthier lifestyles such as: nutrition and exercise and social inclusion.  The Health Educator is responsible to create, deliver and advertise these programs within Piikani Nation community. The Health Educator works collaboratively with all AKHS programs to provide a wide range of programs.  As the Health Educator you will require excellent organizational, communication, and multi-tasking skills.

The Health Educator is required to work on and off site.  Off sites duties for the Health Educator may include AKHS community events, school events, fitness programs etc.
