Reports to: AMW Manager
Schedule: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Rate of Pay: $25 per hour
The Opportunity
The Recovery Coach (RC) will integrate Blackfoot healing traditions and a holistic approach to support individuals on their recovery journey. This role emphasizes cultural respect, evidence-based practices, and person-centered care. The RC will work to build strong connections and positive relationships with all stakeholders, including family, caregivers, program facilitators, and AKHS/AMW colleagues.

About AMW
Akoka’tssini Mental Wellness (AMW) is a sub-department under the Aakom-Kiyii Health Services umbrella. AMW supports the Piikani community with services and programming directly related to Mental Health and Addictions. AMW’s mission is to encourage Niitsitapi in their healing by providing continued services with integrity and kimmapiipitsin while reclaiming Piikanissini.
Role and Responsibilities Duties
- Recovery Planning: Collaborate with participants to develop and implement individualized recovery plans, set attainable goals, and create strategies to overcome everyday challenges.
- Education & Skills Development: Design and deliver evidence-based workshops, interventions, and skill-building sessions using a recovery-focused approach.
- Counselling & Group Facilitation: Provide one-on-one counselling and facilitate group therapy sessions to promote healing and resilience.
- Resource Navigation: Assist participants in understanding and accessing local resources, community supports, and the continuum of care model.
- Advocacy & Referrals: Support applications and referrals to appropriate services, positively impacting health and wellness outcomes.
- Trauma-Informed Care: Deliver compassionate, empathetic services through a trauma-informed lens and a person-centered approach.

- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, families, and community partners.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to respond to changing needs and circumstances in a dynamic environment.
- Ethical Practice: Commitment to confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical standards in all interactions.
- Sound Knowledge and ability to demonstrate a practical application of the following techniques is considered an asset: crisis intervention, de-escalation skills, people management skills, conflict intervention and resolution
Qualification
- Education: Diploma or degree in Social Work, Psychology, Addictions Counselling, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in recovery coaching, addictions support, mental health services, or a similar role.
- Certifications: Willingness to obtain Certification in Addiction Recovery Coaching, First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (or equivalent).
- Knowledge: Familiarity with Indigenous culture, traditions, and healing practices, particularly Blackfoot ways of knowing.
- Understanding of trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles.
- Skills: Strong facilitation and counselling skills. Ability to manage documentation and maintain confidentiality. Skilled in MS Office.
- Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check. Knowledge and experience in mental health is an asset.
- Frequent travel is required.
