Classification: Part Time (1.0 FTE) – Term
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct clinical care, health education, and wellness support at Aakom-Kiyii Health Services (AKHS). This role includes delivering primary nursing services, supporting chronic disease management, participating in community health initiatives, and contributing to specialized programs such as medical detox and other programs as required. The RN works closely with clients, families, and healthcare partners to ensure high-quality, culturally safe, and holistic care. Guided by trauma-informed practice and clinical standards, the RN plays a central role in supporting individual and community wellness across the continuum of care.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Provide direct nursing care including assessments, medication administration, wound care, and health monitoring in clinic, home, and community settings. May require occasional visits to Hospitals/Care Homes for assessments for Home Care and Community Care.
- Support clients undergoing medical treatments for infections, injuries, hospital discharge, post-surgery, therapeutic treatments Etc., by monitoring vital signs, managing withdrawal symptoms, and administering prescribed treatments.
- Collaborate with physicians, paramedics, support workers, and mental wellness staff to ensure continuity of care and appropriate referrals.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of client encounters, care plans, and clinical observations.
- Participate in community outreach and health promotion initiatives.
- Respond to health concerns or emergencies in the community and provide stabilization until further medical support is available.
- Assist in intake and discharge planning for all clients.
- Uphold infection prevention and control standards in all clinical environments.
- Engage in ongoing learning and participate in quality improvement activities within the medical team.
Minimum requirement:
- Education: Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
- Registration or eligible for registration & practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
- Knowledge: Thorough understanding of nursing practice standards, health assessment, and clinical documentation.
- Familiarity with medication administration protocols, chronic disease management, and infection prevention and control measures.
